Adding Action Buttons in your Microsoft PowerPoint Presentations

Actions buttons are basically buttons that you can add into your PowerPoint slides to trigger an action. It can play a video or move to a different slide. These action buttons are made ready for you to just add anywhere you need them in the slide.

Steps in Creating and Setting Up an Action Button in a Microsoft PowerPoint Presentation

First, you may want to go to the slide where you will insert the action button. Next, head over to the Insert tab and choose Shapes. Select an action button that you want to use. Now, click and drag your desired action button to where you want to place it.

Once done, the Action Setting dialog box will appear. You have the option to choose between Mouse Click and Mouse Over. Mouse Click will enable an action to happen when the shape is clicked while Mouse Over will set the action when the mouse is hovering over it.

Lastly, set your preferred settings for your action button. Click OK.

Adding Action Buttons on All Slides

What if you want to add the same action button to all slides? Here’s what you can do. Head over to the View tab and select Slide Master. Select your first slide in the left navigation pane.

Go to the Insert tab and select an action button. Set it up according to your preference. Now, go back to the Slide Master again and Close Master View.

How to Assign Action to a Picture

If you have a picture in mind and you want to make it like an action button, it can be done. Go to the Insert tab first and navigate to Illustrations. Select Picture or SmartArt.

Look for the picture that you want to use and click Insert. Click the picture and go to the Insert tab. Navigate to the Links option and select Action. Now you can set it up according to how you want your action button to appear.

Customizing the Look of your Action Button

To change the style and color of your action button, click the action button first. Go to the Format tab and you can edit the shape and style of your action button.

If you want the Action Settings dialog box to appear, just click on the action button and go to the Insert tab. Navigate to Links and select Action.
