Xbox Game Pass App Unavailable for Download Beginning This November
Microsoft is integrating features from the Xbox Game Pass mobile app into the main Xbox app, enhancing the user experience. This week, beta members of Xbox are gaining access to the revamped mobile app, with a full launch expected soon.
Additionally, Microsoft is discontinuing the Xbox Game Pass app altogether, with downloads set to be disabled in November.
A variety of Xbox Game Pass functionalities will now be available within the Xbox app on mobile. This includes the ability to browse the entire Game Pass catalog, manage your subscription, and view and claim Game Pass Ultimate Perks.
In a recent blog post, Microsoft highlighted that users can stream select games through Xbox Cloud Gaming on iOS or Android using a compatible browser, track achievements and game statistics, compare progress with friends, and remotely install games on their console. The Xbox app continues to offer features for staying connected with friends, accessing the latest gaming news, and receiving notifications for game updates, among other functionalities.
The Game Bar Compact Mode, designed for smaller screens and Windows handheld devices, is now accessible to all PC gamers on Windows. This mode allows players to quickly access recently played games, standard game launchers, additional gaming utilities, and the Widget Store, a marketplace for widgets.
The Xbox app also incorporates several features aimed at simplifying game library management. For instance, the app enables users to view and install all add-ons related to a game they are currently installing, regardless of when they obtained them or if they were included in the same bundle, presenting all game content in one location.
Furthermore, the Xbox Series X and S will soon allow users to pre-download game updates, enabling them to start playing immediately when updates go live. This feature is currently available for a select number of games, including Sea of Thieves and Minecraft, but will extend to more titles in the future.
Moreover, Microsoft is enhancing the Xbox app’s wish list feature by introducing notifications. Users can now opt to receive alerts when a game on their wish list is released, added to the Game Pass library, or becomes available as part of a Free Play Days promotion.
In related news, Xbox recently launched its new Game Pass model, Standard, making it available to gamers across the Xbox platform.
