Windows 11 Settings Introduces New “Recommendations & Offers” Page
The Settings app in Windows 11 is continuously evolving, adding and renaming features for enhanced user control. Recently, Microsoft has revamped the Privacy & Security page within the settings app for better clarity, especially for users in the Insider channel. The Recommendations & Offers section now replaces the previous General settings page.
A notable addition is the new “Personalized Offers” feature, which allows users to enable or disable tips, advertisements, and recommendations based on their activity within Windows. A comparison made by Windows Latest highlighted that the Diagnostic Data page is missing the Tailored Experiences option.
When searching for the new option in the Start menu, users are directed to the “Personalized Offers” setting. This confirms that Microsoft has effectively renamed and repositioned this feature for better accessibility.
In addition, “Let me show personalized ads by using Advertising ID” has been simplified to “Advertising ID.” The longer name now serves as a descriptive label beneath the setting for enhanced context. This feature enables users to manage how their Advertising ID is utilized for personalized offers.
Besides the newly introduced option, most of the existing option names have been refined for clearer understanding.
Below is a quick comparison showcasing the appearance of the Privacy & Security settings page in the Windows 11 Insider Beta against the stable version (23H2).
This updated Privacy setting functionality is active on our Beta and Canary machines. With the upcoming release of Windows 11 24H2, it’s expected that Microsoft will include these revamped settings.
As part of the Windows 11 24H2 update, Microsoft is also transitioning more functionalities from the Control Panel to Windows Settings. This includes new toggles that provide greater control over performance across different power profiles, allowing users to manage various power plans for distinct power states directly from the Settings application.
Additionally, Microsoft is removing the legacy Control Panel’s font page, encouraging users to fully transition to the Settings app instead.
New Generative AI Privacy Settings
In terms of new features, Windows 11 24H2 will introduce a Generative AI privacy settings option within the app permissions.
Reported by Windows Latest earlier, this feature allows users to manage which applications have access to Generative AI capabilities and includes a history tracking option for monitoring requests.
Though this option has currently disappeared from our preview builds of Windows 11 24H2, we anticipate its return.
Furthermore, Windows Recall is set to make a comeback on Copilot+ PCs after being absent since its initial rollout. Microsoft has acknowledged the need to refine the feature’s privacy and security settings prior to its reintroduction.
