Windows 11 PCs with Star Wars Outlaws Can Now Upgrade to 24H2
Microsoft has removed the restrictions that hindered certain users from upgrading to Windows 11 24H2 due to compatibility issues with specific games, including Star Wars Outlaws. This restriction was initially implemented because of various problems related to Ubisoft-developed titles, such as performance lags and system freezes.
The situation was first reported on Microsoft’s Windows Health Dashboard on November 30, followed by an acknowledgment from Microsoft the next day.
In an official support document, Microsoft outlined potential issues users might encounter with games like Star Wars Outlaws, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, and Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.
Shortly after the announcement, Microsoft halted the rollout of the October 2024 Update for Windows 11, version 21H2, to certain users affected by these issues. However, they have now allowed users with Ubisoft games installed to update to the October 2024 Update, version 21H2, for Windows 11.
Though Microsoft’s statements imply that the underlying issue — likely due to bugs within the game code — remains unresolved, the companies have found a temporary workaround. As noted on Microsoft’s Windows Health Dashboard, while Star Wars Outlaws and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora are no longer impacted by this bug thanks to temporary hotfixes, users may still encounter performance difficulties.
On the other hand, the Assassin’s Creed series continues to be restricted from upgrading to Windows 11, version 24H2, with Microsoft explicitly stating that these games are “listed as incompatible with Windows 11, version 24H2.”
The compatibility challenges involving Ubisoft titles with Windows 11 version 24H2 are not the sole concerns affecting users with the most recent Windows 11 feature update. The new operating system also faced several connectivity issues among others.
