Windows 11 Market Share Experiences a Decline Again

The latest insights from StatCounter, a web analytics firm, reveal that, as of November 2024, Windows 11 has experienced its first decline in market share following an extended period of steady growth. Concurrently, Windows 10, which recently received an update, has seen an uptick in its market presence.

According to the report, Windows 11 now commands approximately 34.94% of the market, reflecting a drop of 0.64 percentage points since October. In contrast, Windows 10 has climbed to 61.83% market share, gaining 0.88 percentage points.

When examining year-over-year performance, Windows 11’s market share rose from 26.63% in November 2023 to 34.94% in November 2024—a growth of 8.31 percentage points. Meanwhile, Windows 10, which stood at 68.02% in November 2023, witnessed a decline of 6.19 percentage points over the past year.

StatCounter outlines the current Windows market landscape as follows:

  • Windows 10: 61.83%
  • Windows 11: 34.94%
  • Windows 7: 2.47%
  • Windows 8.1: 0.31%
  • Windows XP: 0.25%

The deadline for Windows 10 support is projected to be in roughly 10 months, and although its market share exceeds 61%, it may not be a strong position. Nevertheless, Microsoft is making efforts to entice users: They are currently displaying full-screen advertisements to Windows 10 users featuring Windows 11 and Copilot+ PCs.

Additionally, there is an option for users to pay $30 for an extra year of security updates if they prefer not to upgrade. There are also unofficial methods available to keep your Windows 10 secure.

What is your perspective on the current scenario in the Windows market? Are you continuing with Windows 10, or have you transitioned to Windows 11?
