Windows 11 Improves Microsoft Store for Updating Win32 Apps Seamlessly

Microsoft has rolled out an updated Windows 11 preview build (27758) for participants in the Windows Insider Program’s Canary Channel. This latest version addresses multiple bugs, although some issues remain unresolved. Additionally, it improves the Microsoft Store, enabling users to easily update their Win32 applications.

Among the fixes included in this build is a resolution for a File Explorer bug that could lead to the search box extending beyond the right edge of the window. Another fix resolves a problematic scenario where right-clicking app icons on the taskbar could crash explorer.exe. Furthermore, the update rectifies an issue that resulted in the mouse cursor becoming invisible when hovering over text input areas in select applications.

Microsoft also shared that the Microsoft Store now supports updates for specific Win32 applications directly within the platform, eliminating the need for users to manually download and install new versions. This feature is live for Windows Insiders in the Canary Channel, with plans to roll it out to Dev Channel and Beta Channel users in the near future.

Another noteworthy fix addresses an issue that prevented the desktop background from displaying correctly across multiple monitors, leaving large black areas visible. Additionally, Microsoft is initiating the rollout of a solution for a problem that caused the Task Manager to render incorrectly after resizing. A complete overview of all fixes can be found in Microsoft’s official blog post.

On the topic of existing issues, Microsoft indicates that users of specific Copilot+ PCs may lose access to their Windows Hello PIN and biometric settings upon switching from the Dev Channel to the Canary Channel. It is advised that those affected create a new PIN by going to Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options > Windows Hello PIN and selecting “Set up my PIN.” Additionally, some insiders are experiencing difficulties with rollbacks when trying to install the latest Canary builds, a problem Microsoft is actively addressing.

In related developments, the Recall feature has recently been introduced to Windows 11. However, it appears that full functionality is hampered due to the release of a problematic Insider build.
