Windows 11 24H2 Update: New Issues with Blank Clipboard History and Buggy Disk Cleanup Tool

Windows 11 24H2 has encountered a range of known issues, many of which were initially reported by Windows Latest and subsequently confirmed by Microsoft. Notable problems include the 8.63 GB bug and the malfunction of the SFC /scannow command. Furthermore, there are allegations that Microsoft is aware of a bug that causes WD SSD/NVMe devices to crash, resulting in a BSOD. Additionally, users are reporting complications with the Clipboard history feature, rendering it nonfunctional.

The Clipboard history capability was introduced with the Windows 10 October 2018 Update (version 1809) and has since become one of the most popular functionalities within the operating system. This feature allows users to keep a record of copied content, such as text and media files (including. jpg and. png images), which can easily be accessed using the Win+V shortcut.

With Windows 11, the Clipboard history feature has been enhanced, incorporating additional functionalities like emojis and GIFs. However, in the latest 24H2 release, users are experiencing significant issues.

During our examination, Windows Latest noted that the Clipboard history feature fails to operate correctly, perpetually displaying the message “Nothing here — You’ll see clipboard history here once you’ve copied something.” This bug appears to have emerged with the Windows 11 2024 Update and seems to impact a limited number of users.

One user reported, “I have a fresh installation of Windows 11 24H2 running in a virtual environment, and the clipboard history does not function there either.”

Interestingly, the Windows Insider Program testers had highlighted this bug nearly three months prior to the final testing phase of Windows 11 24H2, indicating that Microsoft may have overlooked these concerns and released the update with the Clipboard history issue intact.

If you find that Clipboard history is nonfunctional after the Windows 11 2024 Update, consider performing the following troubleshooting steps:

  1. Access Settings on your device.
  2. Navigate to System and select Clipboard.
  3. If Suggested Actions is enabled, toggle it off.
  4. Press Windows + V to launch the clipboard without altering the Clipboard History setting. This should enable the display of newly copied items.
  5. Feel free to reactivate Suggested Actions if desired; the clipboard history should continue to function properly.

Another solution involves toggling the Clipboard History feature off and then back on, or adjusting the “Clipboard History sync across devices” setting.

This issue appears to relate to specific patterns, and following these guidelines should help you navigate the problem.

Microsoft likely acknowledges these issues and may roll out a resolution shortly.

Disk Cleanup Incorrectly Displays 8.63GB in Windows Update

Microsoft has officially confirmed the reporting issue associated with the 8.63GB ‘Windows Update cleanup’ cache, a problem we previously reported.

Our investigations indicated that this problem is related to checkpoint cumulative updates, which will be rectified in a future update. Moreover, it has been identified as a reporting glitch, clarifying that Windows 11 is not utilizing 8.63GB of storage for the cache updates.

In a recent update to their support documentation, Microsoft has confirmed that the 8.63GB issue within Windows 11 24H2 is indeed a reporting error affecting Disk Cleanup, and a fix is in progress.
