Windows 10X Build 18941: The Windows 10 Version That Resembled Windows 11

The emergence of Windows 10X build 18941 has sparked interest due to its striking resemblance to Windows 11. Credit goes to Windows Insider aficionado, @techosarusrex, who identified this leak, providing us with some intriguing visuals.

This version, based on Windows 10 1903, showcases a taskbar that mirrors the one found in Windows 11, featuring a centered layout, a squared Windows logo, and a Desktop Manager button. Clicking the Start button reveals a Start page that closely resembles its counterpart in Windows 11, albeit with some variations in app icons.

The taskbar offers a minimalist appearance, displaying just the time and two icons. In contrast, the Settings menu retains the classic Windows 10 look, differing from Windows 11’s modern design.

In addition, the same enthusiast shared images of Windows 10X build 18985, also based on version 1903. This version leans toward a design similar to Windows 11 while maintaining the traditional aesthetics of Windows 10 for its Settings interface and several icons.

Initially introduced in 2019, Windows 10X was intended to be a new OS launched in 2020, targeting dual-screen devices like the Surface Neo, which ultimately never reached the market.

Although Microsoft officially shelved the project in May 2021, many of its design elements influenced Windows 11, which was released later that same year.

On the other hand, if current statistics are to be believed, Windows 11 has struggled to perform well three years post-launch. With Windows 10 approaching end-of-support in less than a year, it appears that the concept of Windows 10X could have offered an effective transition, serving either the existing user base or as a pathway between Windows 10 and its successor.
