Upcoming Optional Feature: Teams’ Intelligent Meetings Recap

Upcoming Optional Feature: Teams’ Intelligent Meetings Recap

Thanks to an upcoming enhancement to the platform set to roll out later this year, Microsoft Teams will allow users to completely disable meeting recaps, live captions, and transcriptions.

As detailed in a recent update to the Microsoft 365 Roadmap, the Seattle-based tech giant will broaden the current ‘Turn off copying or forwarding of meeting chat’ feature to encompass these new functionalities.

The setting will be renamed to ‘Turn off copying and forwarding of meeting chat, live captions, and transcript’ within the meeting configurations. Admins will have the ability to disable it, preventing participants from copying the meeting chat, live captions, or any information generated by the AI-powered meeting recap.

According to the roadmap entry:

Last year, Microsoft Teams introduced the AI-driven Intelligent Meetings Recap feature, which enabled attendees to easily access a summary generated by artificial intelligence, reflecting the discussions that occurred during the meeting.

This summary contains critical points from the meeting, an overall synopsis, suggested tasks, and recommendations along with a timeline for the conversation.

While the ability to disable this feature may disappoint those who rely on quick access to information, it is crucial for enhancing security and privacy. Participants in sensitive or confidential meetings would benefit from ensuring that information isn’t readily accessible.

We are extending the existing ‘Turn off copying or forwarding of meeting chat’ settings for meeting organizers to also include live captions, transcriptions, and meeting recaps. With this update, organizers with eligible licenses will see a new control labeled ‘Turn off copying and forwarding of meeting chat, live captions, and transcript’ in their meeting options. When this control is activated, attendees will not be able to copy the meeting chat, live captions, live transcript, or any insights generated from the intelligent meeting recap.
