Steps to Locate a Halfway Point Using Google Maps
Have you ever struggled to pinpoint a neutral meeting place that everyone can easily access? Whether you’re organizing a casual meetup with friends, a professional business meeting, or a family reunion, identifying a halfway point on Google Maps can often be a challenge. While Google Maps lacks a dedicated feature for this, this comprehensive guide will help you discover the perfect midway location for your upcoming gathering.
Discover the Midpoint on Google Maps Using Coordinates
Every location on Google Maps is identified by specific coordinates consisting of latitude and longitude. By utilizing the coordinates of two locations, you can easily calculate the halfway point between them.
On Google Maps Mobile App
Begin by opening the Google Maps app on your smartphone. Search for your first destination, and long-press the location pin. The coordinates for this location will appear in the Google Maps search bar. Make sure to copy these coordinates for reference.
Repeat this process for the second location, taking note of the coordinates for both end points.
You can now find the halfway point between the two locations utilizing this method.
- Halfway Point’s Latitude = (First Location’s Latitude + Second Location’s Latitude) / 2
- Halfway Point’s Longitude = (First Location’s Longitude + Second Location’s Longitude) / 2
For example, here are the coordinates for our midpoint:
- (23.080359 + 23.071975) / 2 = 23.076215
- (72.495639 + 72.616773) / 2 = 72.556206
This means the coordinates for the midpoint are 23.076215, 72.556206.
Copy these coordinates and paste them into the Google Maps search bar. You will be able to see the halfway point between the designated locations on Google Maps.
You can also add it as a stop along your navigation route for easier access to the midpoint.
Using Google Maps on Desktop
To find the coordinates using your PC, open Google Maps in your web browser. Search for your first location. Right-click on the location pin to reveal the coordinates. Copy and paste these coordinates somewhere for reference, then repeat for the second location.
With the coordinates for both locations noted, calculate the midpoint coordinates by adding the latitude and longitude, then dividing by two. This will provide the precise coordinates of the halfway point on Google Maps.
Enter the midpoint coordinates into the Search bar on Google Maps to visually pinpoint the halfway mark.
Measure Distance to Identify Halfway Point in Google Maps
There are various methods to determine the distance between two points on Google Maps. We can discover the halfway point on Google Maps by measuring the distance between two locations.
On Google Maps Mobile App
Start by searching for the first location within the Google Maps app. Open the location and tap the three dots located at the top-right corner of the screen. Then, tap on Add Label.
Give your Label name and hit Save.
Repeat similar steps for the second location, labeling it as Point 2. Long press on the Point 1 label, then select the Measure distance option.
Drag the map towards the Point 2 label and click on the Add Point button. You will notice a line connecting both points along with the displayed distance.
Multiply the distance by 1.5 to arrive at a new figure. For instance, if the distance is 16 km, multiplying gives you 24 km.
Next, drag the map back towards point 1 along the same line until the distance matches the figure you’ve noted down. Tap on the Add point to finalize.
This point indicates the halfway location between the two designated spots on Google Maps.
Using Google Maps on Desktop
To measure distance via desktop, search for the first location. Right-click on the first location pin and select the Measure distance option.
Drag the map to the second location and click on its pin or label. Google Maps will automatically connect the two locations with a line showing the precise distance.
To find the halfway point, simply divide this distance by 2 and zoom in on the measurement line to accurately locate the halfway mark.
Close the measure distance dialogue and label the midpoint to easily find this location in the future.
