Step-by-Step Guide to Installing ChatGPT as an App on Windows 11 and 10
LAST UPDATED 10/18/2024: You now have the option to install ChatGPT as a native application for Windows 11 and 10. This guide will walk you through the steps to get it set up. ChatGPT, created by OpenAI, is a sophisticated language model that produces text responses that closely resemble human writing, akin to Microsoft’s Copilot, which is based on similar technology.
While ChatGPT can be accessed via a web browser, third-party applications, or mobile devices, you can also install the native Windows application. Nevertheless, this is only available for users who subscribe to ChatGPT Plus, Enterprise, Team, or Education plans. If you lack a paid subscription, you can utilize the ChatGPT Progressive Web App (PWA) via Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome.
A Progressive Web App (PWA) allows websites to provide a more app-like experience. This technology supports offline access, push notifications, automatic updates, and simple installation and uninstallation processes, although its features depend on the developer’s implementation.
This guide will outline the procedures I typically follow to install web services such as the ChatGPT app on Windows 10 or Windows 11.
