UPDATED 10/2/2024: The Windows 11 24H2 (2024 Update) became available on October 1, 2024, for eligible devices. However, if you’re considering an upgrade later, you can download the official ISO file to perform a clean installation or in-place upgrade on a spare device or virtual machine. This guide will walk you through four methods of obtaining the ISO via the official download page, Media Creation Tool, Windows Insider Program, and UUP Dump script.
The best avenues for acquiring the ISO file are through the Microsoft download page or the Media Creation Tool. However, in the initial rollout phase, you can also access it through the Windows Insider Program. Additionally, the UUP Dump script is available as a viable alternative.
The primary difference between the “Windows Insider Preview Downloads” page and the UUP Dump tool is that the Insider page permits you to download official files when Microsoft determines a build is stable enough for ISO formatting. Meanwhile, UUP Dump consists of tools and scripts that allow you to download the latest builds directly from Microsoft servers and create an unofficial ISO for OS installation.
This guide aims to instruct you on how to download the ISO file for any publicly available preview of Windows 11 (version 24H2) and create bootable USB media using the Rufus tool.
