Step-by-Step Guide to Adding Music to Instagram Reels, Stories, and Posts

What You Need to Know

  • Add a single music track to your Instagram Stories and Posts using the ‘Music’ sticker.
  • In Reels, you can incorporate up to 20 tracks for a rich musical experience.
  • While creating any post type, simply tap on the music/audio icon to include your chosen tracks.
  • Instagram has introduced a feature to add song clips directly to your profile.

From sharing birthday wishes to celebrating special moments, Instagram users express themselves in countless ways. To enhance user engagement, Instagram offers a variety of dynamic features, including the popular music sticker, which allows users to add their favorite music to posts. If you’re eager to incorporate this feature into your Instagram content, you’ve come to the right place.

How to Add Music to Your Instagram Story

Open the Instagram app, launch the editor, and select ‘Stories’. Create or upload an image/video from the Instagram camera or your phone’s gallery. Next, tap the sticker option located at the top right of the editor.

In the sticker search box, type ‘music‘ and tap on it once it appears.

Now, select the track from the list or search for a specific song you wish to include. Remember, only a 15-second clip can be added to a story. Adjust the slider to choose the exact portion of the song you want to feature.

If you want the song’s lyrics to be displayed while it plays, select the font icon options. Alternatively, use the video icon options to show only the song title.

You also have the option to display the album cover, a turntable, or nothing at all.

Once you’re happy with your adjustments, tap ‘Done’ and share your story.

How to Add Music to an Instagram Post

Access the editor and swipe to the bottom row to select Posts. Choose your media and tap Next. Then click on the Music icon located at the top right corner.

Search for your desired music track and select it. Use the slider to pick the exact section you wish to incorporate. You can also adjust the duration of the clip by tapping on the left side.

Unlike Stories, you can add up to 90 seconds of music to your posts.

When you finish editing and are satisfied with your post, share it with your followers.

How to Add Music to Reels

Open the Instagram camera and slide the menu to select Reels. Either choose a video from your gallery or record a new reel.

During the editing process, you can add music to your Reels by tapping the Audio icon.

Select your desired track and use the timeline slider to choose the part you want to include. Click Add to mix to finalize your selection.

You can even add multiple tracks to a single reel, with a total of up to 20 tracks allowed.

After adding your music and completing edits, tap Done or the forward arrow to upload your reel.

How to Add a Song to Your Profile

Instagram has recently enabled users to add 30-second song clips to their profiles. These clips appear as a Note on your profile picture and play only when tapped. Your followers can also react and comment on the song.

Why Can’t I Add a Music Sticker to My Instagram Story?

There are several reasons why the music sticker may not be showing up in your search. If you have a business or creator account, this feature may not be accessible to you to avoid copyright issues. Converting to a personal account may resolve this; however, allow 3 days for the change to take effect.

If you already have a personal account and still can’t access the feature, it may be unavailable in your region. Due to music licensing policies in certain countries, Instagram may not have the ability to offer this feature to users.

If your country supports the feature and it’s still not appearing, there could be an issue with the Instagram app on your device. In this case, uninstalling or updating the Instagram app might help resolve the problem.
