Solutions to Resolve MFReadWrite.dll Missing Error on Windows N

Encountering the “MFReadWrite.dll is missing or not found”error on your computer likely indicates that you’re using a Windows N or Pro N edition. This issue arises because these specific versions of Windows lack essential media components, including Windows Media Player, Voice Recorder, and Video Recorder.

Fortunately, resolving this issue is straightforward—you can install the Media Feature Pack. However, if you’re using an older operating system like Windows 7, please note that the Media Feature Pack is no longer available for that version.

What should I do if MFReadWrite.dll is missing?

1. Install the Media Feature Pack for Windows 10 N

  1. Launch your preferred web browser and go to the official Media Feature Pack download page.
  2. Scroll down to the Downloads section, select your Windows 10 N edition, and click Confirm below.
  3. Once the pack has been downloaded, run the installer and follow the prompts to install the required components.

If you are uncertain about which version of Windows you have, go to Start > Settings > System and then select About. This window will provide you with details regarding your Edition, Version, and OS Build.

2. Activate Optional Features to Obtain the Media Feature Pack

  1. Press Win + I to access Settings.
  2. On the left pane, select Apps & features, then click on the Optional features link on the right.
  3. Click on Add a feature, scroll down to locate the Media Feature Pack, and tick the checkbox next to it.
  4. Finally, hit Install below and follow the provided instructions to complete the installation.

That’s all there is to it! By installing the Media Feature Pack, you will successfully obtain the MFReadWrite.dll, eliminating the “MFReadWrite.dll is missing”error. This process will also resolve issues related to the MFPlat.dll file.
