October 2024 Update for Windows 10 Versions 22H2 and 21H2
  • Microsoft is initiating the October 2024 update for Windows 10 versions 22H2 and 21H2.

With the release of the October 2024 Patch Tuesday Update, Microsoft is now implementing the KB5044273 update for Windows 10 22H2 and 21H2. This update encompasses numerous fixes and improvements. Additionally, updates are being released for version 1809 under KB5044277, for version 1607 with KB5044293, and for version 1507 via KB5044286.

As stated by Microsoft, the update KB5044273 elevates the build numbers to 19044.5011 and 19045.5011 for the respective 22H2 and 21H2 versions. This update introduces new visual elements to the Start menu, including a repositioned profile picture and a fresh color scheme for the left pane.

The October update also addresses issues related to the Internet Explorer mode in Microsoft Edge and media playback problems.

Furthermore, Windows 11 versions 22H2 and 21H2 are receiving fixes that tackle issues with Microsoft Entra single sign-on (SSO), File Explorer, the Taskbar, directory enumeration, and Microsoft Defender for Endpoint. Also included in this update are enhancements to COSA profiles for select mobile providers, along with notifications for Windows Update opt-in that will now pop up during the sign-in process.

Updates for Older Windows 10 Versions

Moreover, Microsoft is rolling out updates for legacy operating systems, such as versions 1809, 1607, and 1507.

For instance, the KB5044277 update for version 1809 raises the build number to 17763.6414, addressing Remote Desktop issues and correcting the browser’s handling of the “FrameShutdownDelay”parameter.

Windows 10 version 1607 is set to receive the KB5044293 update, which updates the version to build 14393.7428, fixing several known issues.

Lastly, Windows 10 version 1507 is getting the KB5044286 update, raising the version to build 10240.20796 and including various security enhancements.

How to Install the October 2024 Update

If you wish to download and install Windows 10 build 19045.5011, you can trigger the update manually by navigating to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update. Enable the “Get the latest updates as soon as they’re available” option and click “Check for updates” .

If you would prefer to manually obtain the October 2024 update for Windows 10 versions 22H2 and 21H2, you can find it on the Microsoft Update Catalog site.

In case you face any difficulties after installing this cumulative update, you have the option to uninstall it by following specific instructions to revert to the previous OS version.

Simultaneously, Microsoft is also launching updates for Windows 11 versions 24H2, 23H2, and 22H2. Additionally, this is the final update for version 22H2, as Microsoft has concluded support for this iteration of Windows 11.
