New Windows 11 Build 22635.4510 (KB5046716) Enhances Sharing Options (Preview)
- With the release of Windows 11 build 22635.4510, Microsoft introduces enhanced share options in the context menu.
- This update is accessible via the Beta Channel and includes notable modifications for the on-screen keyboard and accessibility features.
Microsoft has begun the rollout of Windows 11 build 22635.4510 as part of update KB5046716 for devices subscribed to the Beta Channel of the Windows Insider Program, bringing several visual enhancements and accessibility improvements.
As detailed in the official announcement, the Windows 11 KB5046716 update introduces a new share file option directly from the Taskbar context menu. Users can now right-click on an application in the Taskbar to find a “Share this item” option available in the Jump List for accessing recent files.
Although the file-sharing feature is new in this preview, it was previously noted in build 22635.4445. Additionally, Microsoft is working on integrating a “Share” option within the Start menu’s “Recommended” section context menu.
This build introduces a new layout for the on-screen keyboard specifically designed for gamepads, enhancing navigation and typing using an Xbox controller.
This layout assigns various buttons such as X, Y, LB, RB, LT, and more to essential keys like Backspace, Space, and directional keys. A redesigned keyboard layout with vertical alignment has also been introduced.
The update enhances the Windows Narrator functionality, adding features like Skip past links (N’) and Jump to lists (L’). Moreover, improvements to speech recognition and text-to-speech systems are included, with language files now being made available via the Microsoft Store.
Additionally, this version resolves an issue where the Lock screen might display “You’re offline. Widgets are unavailable.”
Furthermore, Microsoft is also working on enhancing the Snap Layouts menu by incorporating explanatory text to aid users when they hover over the “Maximize” button. Currently identified are four options that read “Choose where to move this window (1),” “Choose where to arrange this window (2),” “Choose where to snap this window (3),” and “Choose an app layout for your screen (4).”
To test this feature, users must activate them manually by running the command vivetool /enable /id:53655156 /variant:X
using ViveTool, substituting “X” with the appropriate number corresponding to the text variant, ranging from 0 to 4.
How to Install the Update
To obtain and install the new Windows 11 builds, you need to register your device with the Beta Channel through the “Windows Insider Program” settings found in the “Update & Security” section. After enrolling your device, you can download the build via the “Windows Update” settings by enabling the “Get the latest updates as soon as they’re available” option and selecting the “Check for Updates” button.
Microsoft is actively previewing builds in the Beta Channel for version 23H2 while also working on version 24H2 in the Dev Channel. This parallel development approach is due to various factors, such as the support for version 23H2 running until November 2025, which will continue to receive new features and enhancements through its lifecycle during monthly cumulative updates. Expect to see some improvements from version 23H2 transition to version 24H2 in the future.
