Microsoft to Enable OSCI for All OneDrive Tenants, Significantly Reducing Office Sync Issues

The technology powerhouse based in Redmond is poised to implement OSCI (as part of the EnableAllOcsiClients policy) for OneDrive users, ensuring seamless integration with the Office suite.

As stated in a recent update on the Microsoft 365 Roadmap, administrators have the ability to disable the Group Policy Object (GPO), which encompasses OSCI. However, disabling this option can hinder the effectiveness of keeping all internal Office file versions current.

Thanks to this new feature, OneDrive users can activate OSCI, enabling advantages such as autosave functionality, detailed version history, real-time collaboration among users, and conflict resolution through file merging when necessary.

Here’s the latest announcement:

It’s important to note that this update won’t take effect immediately. The recent update indicates that the rollout of this new policy is scheduled for April 2025, providing admins ample time to adapt.

When the GPO (EnableAllOcsiClients) is enabled, OneDrive and Office communicate effortlessly. Currently, tenants can choose to disable this GPO, but doing so complicates the process of maintaining synchronized versions of Office files, which are crucial for features like autosave, version history, real-time collaboration, and resolving conflicts through merging.
