Microsoft Teams for Web Now Offers Long-Awaited Screen Sharing Feature

Microsoft has rolled out a substantial update for its Teams for Web platform, incorporating a new feature aimed at enhancing interactivity and collaboration during screen sharing. The latest iteration of Teams for Web now mirrors the screen-sharing capabilities previously seen in the Windows and Mac applications, enabling presenters to assign control of shared content to other participants within a meeting.

This enhanced functionality allows attendees to request control while someone is sharing their screen during a Teams meeting. Upon approval, multiple users can collaboratively edit documents, presentations, and other resources in real time. This feature is especially useful for conducting software tutorials, product demonstrations, and training sessions.

To initiate a request for screen control during a Teams meeting on the web, participants must click the “Take control” button located at the top of their screen and select “Take control of the presentation.” The presenter has the authority to either approve or reject this request.

Microsoft has stated that this new feature is accessible to Teams for Web users currently enrolled in either Teams Public Preview or the Microsoft 365 Targeted Release programs. Notably, other meeting attendees do not have to be part of the preview initiatives to utilize the screen-sharing controls.

In related updates, Microsoft has recently revealed that Teams will now allow users to send and receive SMS messages directly through both its desktop and mobile applications.

By enabling one participant to take control of the screen, the meeting process becomes more streamlined. This allows the presenter to navigate through materials without interruptions, facilitating a more efficient and organized meeting experience.
