Microsoft Surface Pro 12: Upcoming Intel Lunar Lake Copilot PC Running Windows 11

Microsoft is in the process of developing a new version of the Surface Pro, which could either be referred to as the Surface Pro 12 or the 2025 update featuring the Intel Lunar Lake architecture. The naming strategy remains ambiguous, particularly because Microsoft appears to be moving away from numerical designations in its Surface product line. However, given the introduction of the Intel Lunar Lake for business applications, it’s plausible that they might revive a numeric naming system.

This forthcoming refresh of the Surface Pro is slated to utilize Intel’s cutting-edge Lunar Lake processors, marking a significant upgrade. One of the sources has already dubbed it the “Surface Pro 12 for Business,” indicating that the model may be particularly tailored for enterprise users, although the specific name for the Intel Lunar Lake variant still remains uncertain.

An intriguing find reported by Windows Latest, originating from a now-removed Reddit post, included insights from an individual believed to have insider knowledge of Microsoft’s operations (be it a partner, reseller, or retailer). The post, which dates back about a month, has been seen as credible within the community.

References suggest that a model equipped with a 120Hz OLED display, haptic touchpad, and Wi-Fi 7 functionalities is currently undergoing internal tests. This specific model is being evaluated with an Intel Lunar Lake processor.

Similar discussions have surfaced on a Chinese forum, which indicates that the Surface Pro “830_QUN,” or Surface Pro 12 for Business, could come in various configurations, featuring processors like the Core Ultra 5 226V, Core Ultra 7 266V, and Core Ultra 7 268V.

Users will have the option to select between 16GB and 32GB RAM configurations, while an 8GB option will not be available.

The absence of an 8GB option aligns with current trends, as 16GB is now viewed as the minimum requirement to effectively utilize Windows 11’s AI capabilities, including the Recall feature, establishing a new standard.

The anticipated Surface Pro 12 featuring the Intel Lunar Lake doesn’t stand alone; additional refreshes are on the horizon for early next year.

Microsoft’s Plans for Surface Laptop with Lunar Lake Upgrade

In addition to the Surface Pro, as highlighted by Zac Bowden recently, a Surface Laptop refresh featuring Intel Lunar Lake is also forthcoming. This device was spotted listed on the Chinese site Goofish.

Expected to retail near $2,600, the Surface Laptop 8 will resemble the Surface Laptop 7, with the primary alteration being the upgraded processor, likely the Ultra 7 268V based on the leaks. Preliminary images surfaced alongside the listing, showcasing the hardware running Windows 11 24H2; however, it does not seem to incorporate the latest AI features, indicating that it may be based on an older software build.

This upgraded device variant boasts one of the high-end WeUs from the Lunar Lake series, complete with an Arc 140V GPU and 32GB of LPDDR5X RAM.

Microsoft and Intel are poised to launch these refreshed Surface models in early 2024.
