Microsoft Copilot Introduces News Podcast Feature Similar to Perplexity AI

Perplexity may not be as prominent as OpenAI’s ChatGPT in the AI landscape, but it certainly offers impressive features, including an AI-driven podcast capability. Microsoft Copilot is taking inspiration from Perplexity’s innovation and is launching a new feature known as “Copilot Daily,” which acts as a “news presenter.”

Let’s delve into Perplexity’s offering. Perplexity’s AI podcast feature, known as Discover Daily, provides an AI-generated experience that reads news articles aloud. These AI podcasts are released daily and often consist of episodes exceeding 8 minutes in length. Powered by ElevenLabs’s AI, the Perplexity Discover Daily features two AI hosts.

Discover Daily is rooted in Perplexity’s Discover feed, which showcases headlines from reputable news sources. A parallel feature is on the way for Copilot, albeit with some differences, and it is aptly named “Copilot Daily.”

Copilot podcast feature

Windows Latest has evaluated this feature as part of the Copilot’s updates.

The revamped Copilot has comparable performance to ChatGPT in terms of website functionality and model capabilities, and it also includes support for up to four distinct voices.

Copilot voice mode

Users will be able to engage with Copilot using voice commands, but the standout feature is undoubtedly “Copilot Daily.”

Copilot Daily is a fully AI-generated daily news podcast that presents some of the most compelling headlines from sources such as Reuters. The podcast runs for about 3-4 minutes, starting at 30:00 and concluding at 34:00.

According to Windows Latest’s tests, the audio playback for the Copilot Daily podcast initiates at a timestamp of 30:00 (or 30 minutes and 0 seconds), with the complete duration indicated on the far right of the progress bar.

The interface includes bubbles that represent different news segments, with each segment being spoken consecutively. For instance, one bubble may commence at 30:00 and collapse after its accompanying audio concludes, followed by the next news bubble starting at 30:25, continuing for four minutes.

A play/pause button is available for user control, with adjacent buttons allowing navigation through the audio to skip to previous or subsequent stories.

The AI podcast feature appears to synthesize a collection of news articles into a cohesive audio segment.

Windows Latest is informed that Copilot Daily might be customizable based on user interests, pulling summaries from various publications.

This concept is intriguing, and users can switch between four voice options: Meadow, Wave, Grove, and Canyon.

Currently, Copilot Daily supports only English (US/UK), but there is potential for the integration of additional languages in the future.
