KB5048652 Update for Windows 10 Released in December 2024

The December 2024 update brings important security enhancements and fixes to Windows 10 versions 22H2 and 21H2 under the build designation KB5048652 (19045.5247 and 19044.5247).

The update affects how app advertisements from the Microsoft Store are displayed, moving them to the “Recommended” section in the Start menu. Users wanting to remove these suggestions can disable the “Show suggestions occasionally in Start” setting in Settings > Personalization > Start.

Additionally, KB5048652 includes resolutions for issues related to App list backups, cloud file copying, motherboard activation problems, Country and Operator Settings Asset (COSA), and Internet Printing Protocol (IPP) printers.

This update initially appeared as build 19045.5194, transitioned to build 19045.5198, and is now available in the Stable Channel under the updated build 19045.5247, all carrying the same KB number.

Updates for Earlier Windows 10 Versions

Microsoft is also deploying updates for older Windows 10 versions, including 1809, 1607, and 1507. For instance, the KB5048661 update for version 1809 increases the build number to 17763.6659 and addresses activation issues following a motherboard replacement.

Windows 10 version 1607 is receiving the KB5048671 update, which updates the build to 14393.7606 and corrects various system issues.

Lastly, the KB5048703 update for Windows 10 version 1507 raises the build to 10240.20857 and introduces security enhancements.

How to Install the Cumulative Update

If you’re keen to download and install Windows 10 build 19045.5131, navigate to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update, enable the “Get the latest updates as soon as they’re available” toggle, and click the “Check for updates” button.

For those opting for a manual installation of the December 2024 update for Windows 10 22H2 and 21H2, you can find the necessary files on the Microsoft Update Catalog.

If any issues arise post-installation of this cumulative update, you have the option to uninstall it by following these instructions to revert to your previous operating system version.
