KB5046723 Update: Microsoft Introduces Recall Feature for Windows Users, But Snapshots Not Supported
The Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26120.2415, identified as KB5046723, introduces an exciting feature for Windows Insiders: Windows Recall.
After several delays, the Recall feature is now available for a preview on Snapdragon-enabled Copilot+ devices in the Dev Channel, alongside a complementary function known as Click to Do.
Windows Recall is an advanced search tool designed to adapt to your habits and preferences, enabling faster access to files on your computer. Leveraging the AI capabilities of Copilot+ devices, Recall allows you to trace your digital footprint to quickly locate any application, website, image, or document simply by describing what it contains. Additionally, there is an option to navigate a timeline to revisit previous activities.
In conjunction with Recall, KB5046723 introduces Click to Do, a feature that enhances interaction with elements within an image or screenshot to facilitate completion of tasks. For example, when you take a snapshot within an application, Click to Do can help you directly copy that data to your clipboard, open the app in a new window, or even share the information via email.
This feature is capable of recognizing both text and visuals, providing AI-assisted actions like text copying or image sharing. Click to Do can also perform visual searches or remove objects from a picture.
Recall and Click to Do can be utilized alongside tools such as the Windows Snipping Tool, Office Lens, the Print Screen keyboard shortcut, as well as the traditional Ctrl + C and V, and Win + Shift + S shortcuts.
At this moment, Recall is accessible to Windows Insiders located in the U.S., U.K., Australia, Canada, India, and Mexico who have set their display languages to English, French, German, Spanish, Chinese (simplified), or Japanese. Both Recall and Click to Do are exclusive to Windows Insiders in the Dev Channel who have opted to receive the latest updates.
It’s crucial to recognize that the iteration of Recall and Click to Do released is a preview, meaning certain functionalities might not operate as anticipated. According to a blog post by Microsoft, the models for Recall and Click to Do will start downloading in the background following the installation of Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26120.2415, which may require some time.
Update: Microsoft has amended their blog post to notify users that at this time, Windows Recall is unable to save snapshots in the Dev Channel after installing KB5046740. The company suggests refraining from installing this particular update for the time being.
Users can access the Recall feature via the Start menu, with settings that can be adjusted—such as the capability for Recall to save snapshots and the allocated disk space—available under the Privacy and security section within the Settings application.
Microsoft indicates that Recall and Click to Do will initially launch on Copilot+ PCs that feature Snapdragon processors, although not all users will gain access immediately. The rollout is planned to extend to more Copilot+ PC users over the upcoming weeks.
Furthermore, Windows Insiders using AMD and Intel-powered Copilot+ PCs will eventually also receive support for Recall and Click to Do. The company aims to broaden the availability of these features across additional regions and languages in the future.
To utilize Recall and Click to Do, you will need KB5046723, which Microsoft is currently distributing to Dev Channel users with Copilot+ PCs through Windows Update.
