How to Add Music to Your Instagram Profile: A Step-by-Step Guide
Instagram has introduced an exciting new feature that allows users to add music directly to their profiles, building on the existing options to incorporate music into posts, Stories, and Reels. If you’re eager to highlight your musical tastes on your profile, follow this guide to learn how to set it up.
Integrating Music into Your Instagram Profile
The ability to add music to your Instagram profile is gradually being released to users across the globe.
To verify if you have access to this feature, ensure that your app is updated. You can do this by visiting either the Google Play Store or the App Store, locating the app, and checking for an Update button. Currently, this feature is available solely through the mobile app and not the web version, and it’s limited to personal accounts as it’s not enabled for business profiles just yet.
Launch the Instagram app on your device and tap on your profile picture located at the bottom right corner.
This action will lead you to your Instagram profile. Below your profile picture, select the Edit Profile button.
Look for new options under the available fields. You should find a Music field under the Banners section. Tap it to commence adding your music.
You will be directed to the Instagram music library. Here, you can either search for a specific artist or song or explore the recommendations offered by the app. You also have the chance to listen to the track directly from Search to determine if it fits your vibe or matches your expectations.
After choosing your song, you’ll need to select a 30-second clip, as only this section will be shown on your profile. Adjust the selection bar using your finger to find your favorite segment.
Once you make your selection, tap Done on your Edit Profile page. The song should now be visible in the Music field.
Tap the Back button to return to your profile. If the music doesn’t appear right away, refresh your profile by swiping down from the top.
It’s important to note that you can only feature one song at a time on your profile. If you wish to change the current track, you will need to remove the existing one and select a new song. The music will remain on your Instagram profile until you decide to delete it.
Playing a Profile Song on Instagram
Visitors won’t automatically hear the song when they view your profile. For them to enjoy it, they must click on the small Play button located next to the song title. Due to its small size, it may take a few taps to get the music playing. To stop the music, simply hit the Pause button.
If they’re enjoying the track, they can also click on the song title to explore more content, such as Reels, that feature the same song.
Since this feature is quite new, you might notice that not many profiles yet showcase music. If you haven’t stumbled upon any musical profiles, don’t worry—this trend will likely gain traction shortly.
How to Remove a Song from Your Instagram Profile
If you decide to eliminate the song from your profile for any reason, navigate back to your profile and tap the Edit Profile button.
Locate the Music field, and press the small X button next to the title of the song. This will promptly remove the track from your profile.
After this, the next steps are up to you. If you wish to add another song, you’ll need to revisit the Instagram music library. Alternatively, you may opt to leave the field blank.
Tracking Listeners of Your Instagram Profile Song
At present, there is no way to see who has listened to your profile song; this feature is not available yet. Instagram may consider adding this functionality in future updates.
Alternative Method to Add Music if You Don’t Have the Feature Yet
If you haven’t gained access to this feature yet and want to incorporate music into your profile, a workaround exists until it’s available.
Return to your Instagram profile and tap the Edit Profile button. Next, navigate to the Links field and select it.
Click on Add External Link.
Paste your desired link in the provided field. For instance, you might include the YouTube link to the music (consider shortening it using a site like URL Shortener), add a Title, then hit Done.
Returning to your profile, the link should now be accessible, guiding visitors directly to the YouTube page where they can enjoy the full track.
To further enhance your Instagram profile, consider exploring methods to use the archive feature for hiding posts, as well as learning how to conceal any unflattering images from your profile.
