Guide to Using the PC Manager App on Windows 11

Essential Information

Historically, Windows has struggled with effectively cleaning up its own remnants, particularly in terms of application folders and registry entries. This has created a demand for third-party tools like CCleaner.

In response to this issue, Microsoft has launched the PC Manager app, designed to enhance PC performance and provide a robust alternative to conventional cleaning applications.

Understanding the Windows 11 PC Manager App

The PC Manager app represents Microsoft’s innovative solution for optimizing system performance and cleaning capabilities. It consolidates various built-in tools that focus on managing startup applications, eliminating system clutter, and enhancing overall PC speed.

This app operates seamlessly in the background and allows for quick access directly from the system tray. The interface is a streamlined side-pane view, reminiscent of OneDrive, and it offers an array of insights, health assessments, and security functions—all in one convenient platform.

How to Download the PC Manager App

The PC Manager app is available for download directly from Microsoft’s official website.

    Utilizing the PC Manager App

Let’s explore the various functionalities that position PC Manager as a strong competitor among performance enhancement and cleaning applications.

The PC Manager will swiftly scan for potential issues.

Upon completion, it will suggest actions—make sure to review these suggestions before selecting “Proceed” .

When finished, click on “Done” .

    Oversee Storage Management

The storage management feature displays the current available storage on your PC. If your storage capacity is limited, click on Storage to explore further options.

Select any category to identify files eligible for deletion.

Choose the files you wish to remove and then click on Permanently Delete.

Note: You can customize your file search criteria based on size, file type, and more.

To conduct a deeper cleanup, click on Scan beside Deep Cleanup.

This will help you uncover large, unnecessary files located on your ‘C’ drive.

“Manage large files” lets you search for sizable files stored on the ‘C’ drive.

You can adjust the size and file type filters, then view these files through File Explorer.

    Control Processes on Your PC

The process management feature functions similarly to Task Manager by providing a brief overview of the currently running processes on your system.

Crucially, you can terminate unused processes to enhance system speed. To do this, click “End” next to the specific process to free up the corresponding memory.

    Control Startup Applications

Similar to the Task Manager, the Startup Apps functionality displays applications that you may want to disable to improve boot times.

To turn off any application, simply toggle its switch to off.

Scan Your PC with Windows Defender

The option for scanning for viruses and threats is conveniently located at the top within the “Security” tab. Clicking it initiates a comprehensive system scan.

Upon completion, results will be displayed in the PC Manager app along with a notification from Microsoft Defender Antivirus.

    Update Your Windows Operating System

A quick access option for Windows updates is also part of the ‘Security’ tab, allowing you to easily see if your system is current or requires updates.

If updates are available, you can review the components and carry out the updates directly from the PC Manager app.

    Implement Browser Protection

This feature offers minimal utility, mainly assisting users in setting Microsoft Edge as their default browser.

Additionally, it includes an option to “Block changes by malicious apps,” which can be beneficial if you experience issues with malicious apps attempting to alter your browser settings.

Though still in its beta stage, the PC Manager app has successfully combined essential elements of system security, performance enhancement, and file cleaning tools within a single application.
