Guide to Modifying Lock Screen Toggles on iPhone Running iOS 18

Essential Information

  • With iOS 18, you can customize the default flashlight and camera shortcuts on your iPhone’s lock screen.
  • Choose from a variety of shortcuts, set any app as a lock screen toggle, or even completely remove them from your iPhone’s lock screen.
  • To modify the lock screen toggles on your iPhone, long press the lock screen, then select Customize > Lock screen > remove current shortcuts > and select new options.

The torch and camera shortcuts on the iPhone’s lock screen have been a longstanding feature. While the flashlight is quite useful, the camera toggle often feels redundant since you can easily access the camera by swiping right on the lock screen. Additionally, with the iPhone 16, a dedicated camera button has been introduced.

If you’re tired of these standard toggles or feel that there are better alternatives available, iOS 18 provides the flexibility to personalize them. Furthermore, if you prefer a cleaner lock screen aesthetic, you can easily remove the toggles as well.

How to Change Lock Screen Toggles on Your iPhone

  1. Long press the lock screen and select Customize. After that, tap on Lock Screen.
  2. Tap the icon next to the current lock screen toggles to remove them. After removing, tap on the + icon.
  3. You will see multiple options available for the Lock Screen. Tap on the one you wish to add.
  4. After adding the new toggle, tap Done to save your changes. Your Lock Screen toggles are now customized!
  5. You have the option to set different toggles for different Lock Screens, allowing for varied profiles.

Note: If you remove the toggles without adding new ones, the current toggles will disappear entirely from the Lock Screen, resulting in a tidier look.

Adding Apps to Your iPhone’s Lock Screen

In addition to the standard toggle options, you can set any app on your iPhone’s Lock Screen using the ‘Open App’ shortcut feature. Follow these steps to add an app as a shortcut on your Lock Screen:

  1. Follow the first two steps mentioned above to access Lock Screen customization.
  2. On the selection page, tap Open App, then select Choose to pick the app you want.
  3. Choose the desired app, then tap anywhere on the screen to exit.
  4. Finally, tap Done in the top right corner to finalize your choice, and the selected app will now serve as one of your Lock Screen shortcuts.

This degree of customization is refreshing to witness on any device, including the iPhone. Ultimately, you should have the power to decide which shortcuts are accessible directly from your device’s lock screen.
