- Threads has introduced a feature that allows users to add location tags in their posts.

- Users can click on the tagged location to view other posts originating from that area.
- This feature requires enabled location services and is currently in the process of rolling out.
Threads is gradually rolling out a new location tagging feature that allows users to mark their approximate location in posts. This functionality is similar to how location tagging operates on Instagram. Currently, location tagging on Threads is available exclusively through the mobile app.
Steps to Add Location Tags to Your Posts on Threads (Mobile App Only)
If youâre accustomed to tagging locations on Instagram, you will easily adapt to it on Threads. Follow these steps:
- Ensure that you have granted Threads permission to access your location. If not, you can adjust this setting via your phoneâs Settings app.
- Open the Threads app.
- Tap on the + icon located at the bottom to initiate a new post.
- If the location tagging feature is available to you, you will notice a âPinâ icon in the post composer. Simply tap on it.
- Search for your location and choose from various nearby locations.
- Complete your post creation and then tap Post.
Once your post is shared, other users will be able to view the tagged location and can click on it to explore additional posts from that area. This feature provides a great opportunity to discover content from specific locations. Furthermore, it allows Meta to offer âpersonalized content and nearby places,â as highlighted in the appâs disclaimer.
However, at the time of writing, the location tagging feature on Threads is not widely available and seems to be temporarily down.
Please expect the feature to be restored and rolled out to additional users globally soon. In the meantime, donât forget to check for app updates!
