Google has unveiled an updated iteration of Google Drive for Desktop that is operable on Windows 11 systems equipped with ARM processors, such as those using Qualcomm Snapdragon technology. This upgrade is a welcome development for users eager to utilize Drive on their ARM-based laptops.

The beta functions similarly to the conventional Google Drive application, although it does not yet include the Outlook Meet plugin. Google advises users to exercise caution when utilizing this beta version, recommending its use for non-essential files or ensuring that backups of crucial data are available.

To access this new version, you need to have both Windows 11 and Microsoft WebView2 on your system. Most modern Windows 11 machines should already have WebView2 installed, but if yours is an exception, the setup installer will assist you in obtaining it.

This update resolves a significant issue for ARM device users who previously could not run Google Drive effectively. With this advancement, they now enjoy the same Drive capabilities as other users, enhancing the utility of ARM laptops for everyday tasks.

This release coincides with Qualcomm’s expansion in the computing chip market through the introduction of new processors such as the Snapdragon X Plus and X Elite. The functional compatibility of Google Drive significantly boosts the attractiveness of ARM-based Windows computers to prospective customers.

Qualcomm is set to showcase their latest advancements at CES in Las Vegas this January, where they are expected to announce additional software updates and future processor developments.
