Fix Sticky Notes Issues on Windows 11 and 10: Resolving “Account Has No Mailbox” Error
Recently, Microsoft launched a new version of the Sticky Notes app integrated within OneNote. As the older version is set to be phased out soon, a number of users are experiencing difficulties logging into the legacy app, leaving them unable to access their notes and forcing them to find alternative methods for retrieval.
Windows Latest uncovered a community discussion highlighting these Sticky Notes issues, which has garnered over 1200 views since its posting on September 29. Currently, 91 users are reporting similar login complications, indicating that this isn’t an isolated incident.
The sign-in difficulties appear to stem from the login functionality of the older Sticky Notes app, which fails to complete the authentication process and instead displays an “account has no mailbox” error. The individual who initiated the community post has attempted various solutions, including resetting the app, reinstalling, and using an alternative Microsoft account, yet none have resolved the problem.
Interestingly, users with work or school accounts seem to have no trouble logging in, whereas those with personal accounts encounter errors. Although notes are accessible through the OneNote app and sync correctly in the Outlook Notes folder, users find themselves locked out after logging out of their personal accounts.
Other users of Sticky Notes have chimed in, voicing their frustrations with the recent changes and limitations of the new Sticky Notes app.
This new version has eliminated several familiar features, such as the ability to paste images, faces challenges when changing note colors, and it typically deletes previous notes when a different account is used to log in, among other issues.
How to Resolve the “Account has no mailbox” Sticky Notes Error
A simple solution to bypass the login issue is to retrieve your notes through a different Microsoft service. Since all your notes are synced and stored within your Outlook account, you can log in to Outlook and access the Notes section directly.
Another straightforward option is to switch to the new Sticky Notes app. We understand that this might feel inconvenient and you may be displeased with it, but since the old app will eventually be retired, it’s advisable to start using the new one to ensure continued access to your notes.
To date, Microsoft moderators haven’t addressed this issue, so until they resolve it, you may have to rely on these alternative methods to access your notes. If you are still logged into the old Sticky Notes app, it is best to stay signed in and avoid logging out.
