Exploring the New Copilot AI Features in Microsoft Word UI for Microsoft 365 on Windows 11

Microsoft has integrated artificial intelligence into virtually all its applications, including popular tools like Photos, Paint, and Office programs such as Word and PowerPoint. Windows Latest has previously provided an in-depth exploration of the Copilot feature within PowerPoint, Word, and Excel. Up to this point, the integration of Copilot has been somewhat restricted, but the latest update for Word on Windows 11 introduces a revamped interface designed to accommodate AI functionality.

The screenshot below illustrates Microsoft’s ongoing experimentation with a fresh user interface aimed at enhancing the AI-driven Copilot feature in Word for Windows 11. Although the toolbar retains the Copilot button along with options for formatting and editing, Microsoft is incorporating suggestions directly beneath the header.

Depending on the open document’s nature, Copilot offers tailored suggestions, such as composing an article, writing an email, or summarizing a document. These suggestions are conveniently displayed at the document’s top, allowing users to easily select their desired tasks.

In the provided example, a text box marked “Describe what you’d like to write”appears beneath the suggestions. Users can input their ideas here, and the AI will assist in generating relevant content.

Microsoft representatives confirmed to Windows Latest that they are indeed refining the user interface for Copilot integration within Word. However, users will need a Microsoft 365 subscription along with the Microsoft 365 Copilot subscription to access this feature.

Previously, Microsoft required users to hover over the text field or highlight text to utilize Copilot’s writing and editing capabilities.
