Experience Enhanced Speed with Microsoft’s New File Search Companion as an Alternative to Windows 11 Search
We recently shared insights about the Microsoft 365 Companion, which appears to encompass an entire range of Companion applications tailored for users of Microsoft 365 within the People app.
As indicated in a tweet from EpicB on X, the People app/Microsoft 365 Companion has received an update that integrates a new feature: the File Search Companion, designed to enhance file searches on your PC through AI technology.
The File Search Companion is a Taskbar extension powered by WebView2 that facilitates live search capabilities, significantly outpacing the traditional Windows Search. Upon activation, it presents a streamlined window featuring a search input field along with multiple filter options. For example, users can specifically search for Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, or PowerPoint files directly from this interface.
Thanks to its AI-driven design, it takes into account the context of your usage. If you’re currently engaged with office applications, your search outcomes will be dynamically adjusted to reflect this activity.
This app significantly outperforms Windows Search, harnessing the Edge engine through its WebView2 framework to provide much quicker results.
The method of installation for this app remains uncertain, but it is likely to align with the installation process for the People app. Consequently, a Microsoft 365 work or school account may be required to utilize it.
The search functionality enhancement is a welcome addition for Windows 11 users, as the existing Windows Search has been notably ineffective, often slow and sometimes unresponsive.
What are your opinions on the File Search Companion? We encourage you to share your thoughts in the comments below!
