Download Windows 11 KB5044380 to Remove Copilot Key (.msu Direct Download)

The optional update KB5044380 for Windows 11 23H2 is now live and can be easily downloaded by navigating to Settings > Updates & Security > Windows Update. Additionally, Microsoft has made available direct download links for the offline version of KB5044380 (.msu) via the Update Catalog.

This October update focuses on resolving numerous issues within Windows 11 23H2. One of the standout features introduced is the ability to customize the function of the Copilot key on your keyboard.

For users on newer hardware, pressing the Copilot key will by default launch the Copilot app. If you are logged in with a Microsoft Entra ID, however, the key will launch the M365 app instead. You also have the option to customize its function to open an alternate application or the Search feature by going to Settings > Personalization > Text Input.

To designate a different app for the Copilot key, it must be packaged in an MSIX format, which complies with Microsoft’s security and privacy regulations. Please be aware that this setting change will not affect keyboards that do not include a dedicated Copilot key.

New Features in Windows 11 Build 22621.4391

The Windows 11 23H2 22621.4391 update addresses numerous critical issues. One of the significant improvements is a reduction in battery usage during Modern Standby, which had led to faster-than-expected battery drain on several devices.

Moreover, users of Microsoft Teams will be pleased to learn that a bug preventing them from joining meetings via Outlook reminders has been fixed.

The Windows 11 KB5044380 update includes several important fixes, among which are:

  • Addition of new phone numbers for product activation across different regions.
  • Addressing an issue with Multi-Function Printers (MFPs) that were printing unnecessary network command text when connected through USB.
  • Resolution for a vmswitch error that caused stop errors with Load Balancing and Failover (LBFO) on virtual machines.
  • A fix for collector sets that did not close properly during exceptions, preventing command freezing.
  • Safe updates for the Country and Operator Settings Asset (COSA) to ensure mobile operator profiles remain current.
  • Resolution of an issue with Windows Hello for Business when attempting to reset a PIN, particularly when the “I forgot my PIN”option was selected.
  • Updates to the Windows Kernel Vulnerable Driver Blocklist to guard against Bring Your Own Vulnerable Driver (BYOVD) threats.
  • WebView2 applications are now capable of detecting input from both Xbox 360 and Bluetooth controllers, fixing previous detection issues.
  • Addressing a memory leak that could freeze applications while using Bluetooth devices.

This update remains optional, meaning it won’t be downloaded and installed automatically. To get this update, visit the Windows Update section in your Settings and select Download & Install.
