Download Windows 10 KB5048652 Update with Fixes (.msu File Included)

The rollout of Windows 10 KB5048652 is happening today, marking the final security patch of the year for this soon-to-be obsolete operating system that many users are still holding onto. Recently, Windows 10 has not introduced any major features; the last significant update was the redesigned Account Manager UI in the Start Menu. With this update, you’ll be receiving only essential bug fixes.

As part of Microsoft’s Patch Tuesday protocol, KB5048652 will automatically download and install on your machine unless you’ve specifically disabled this auto-update feature. For those looking to manually apply the update, you can do so via Settings > Updates & Security > Windows Update. Once installed, your system will be upgraded to build 19045.5427.

Be sure not to overlook this final security update for 2024 since it addresses existing vulnerabilities within the operating system. If you’re unable to update through the Settings app, Microsoft has made offline installer files (.msu) available for download.

Using the offline installer is quite simple. Just execute the installer file, allow it to initialize, and then proceed to install the update components. Keep in mind that this method may take longer than applying updates through the Settings app.

What’s New in Windows 10 Build 19045.5427

This security update, as previously discussed in our post about the November optional update for Windows 10, omits the new Recommended section in the Start menu. This exclusion is inconsequential, as it primarily serves to showcase Microsoft Store apps—adding more clutter rather than functionality to your workspace.

In testing this feature on a Windows 10 Insider build, we promptly disabled it by going to Settings > Personalization > Start and turning off the Show suggestions occasionally in the Start option.

All the bug fixes from the earlier optional update are included with build 19045.5427. For those who experienced issues copying files from cloud storage providers like Dropbox or Google Drive, this problem has been resolved—previously, files would move instead of copy, resulting in the hassle of searching for misplaced items.

Additionally, issues with Win32 app shortcuts not backing up to the cloud have been addressed, now functioning correctly. This is particularly beneficial for users setting up a new PC with a shared Microsoft account, allowing them to transfer settings and preferences seamlessly.

Other fixes involve resolving Windows 10 activation issues triggered by a motherboard swap, alongside addressing hang-ups or crashes when using an Internet Printing Protocol (IPP) printer.

If you’re still undecided on your future with Windows 10, be aware that the end-of-support date is just around nine months away. After this point, security and feature updates will cease, although the latter has been minimal already. Unlike Windows 11, Windows 10 is not receiving significant attention from Microsoft as the company positions its latest OS as the go-to choice infusing artificial intelligence capabilities.

There is a glimmer of hope for those wanting to extend Windows 10 security support for an additional year for a fee of $30. The Extended Support Program has varying plans for Enterprise users, but sticking with this decade-old operating system won’t be an option for much longer.
