Creating a Windows 11 Bootable USB with Rufus to Bypass Installation Requirements
LAST UPDATED 10/29/2024: With Rufus, you can create a bootable USB drive for Windows 11 that circumvents TPM 2.0, Secure Boot, and memory limitations on unsupported devices. This tool also enables you to generate custom installation media that does not require an internet connection or a Microsoft account. Additionally, it allows you to disable automatic BitLocker or Device Encryption activation. This guide will walk you through the process to set up this configuration.
While the Media Creation Tool is available, Rufus simplifies the creation of a USB flash drive for Windows 11 installation. It allows you to utilize an existing ISO file or directly download required files from Microsoft. The latest updates to Rufus have introduced configuration options that help bypass the system requirements for both clean installations and in-place upgrades.
In this guide, I will provide detailed steps to utilize Rufus for creating bootable media for Windows 11 installation.

In the “Volume label” field, assign a meaningful name to your Windows 11 bootable USB drive, such as Windows 11 Bypass.
-
Keep the default values for the File system and Cluster size settings.
-
Enable the Quick format option.
-
Activate the “Create extended label and icon files” checkbox.
-
Click the Start button.
-
To bypass hardware requirements, check the “Remove requirement for 4GB+ RAM, Secure Boot and TPM 2.0” option.
-
Enable the “Remove requirement for an online Microsoft account” option to avoid the internet requirement and create a local account.
-
Check the “Create a local account with username” option and provide a username to automate the creation of a local account.
-
(Optional) Activate the “Disable BitLocker automatic device encryption” option to prevent BitLocker activation during installation.
-
Finally, click the OK button.
Upon completing these steps, Rufus will generate a bootable USB that bypasses the usual requirements for upgrading or doing a fresh installation of Windows 11 on unsupported systems.
It’s essential to ensure that you are using version 4.6 or newer to create customized USB media that sidesteps hardware prerequisites, especially for in-place upgrades.
