Boat Airdopes 311 Pro Review: Stylish Design with Mediocre Sound Quality

Boat Airdopes 311 Pro Review: Stylish Design with Mediocre Sound Quality

Key Points to Consider

  • The Boat Airdopes 311 Pro boast an impressively sleek and stylish design.
  • These earbuds deliver approximately 6-7 hours of playback time, with a total of 45 hours when including the charging case. The fast charging and pairing features work effectively, and the microphone performance is satisfactory.
  • However, the audio quality leaves much to be desired, with minimal bass and treble that can become shrill at high volumes. Additionally, there are no volume control features present.

Audio fidelity should not be compromised in budget earbuds. Unfortunately, this isn’t always the reality, particularly since many products are marketed for their attractive appearance rather than their sound capabilities. Many consumers might not have the opportunity to test the earbuds until they arrive, a strategy some brands have successfully leveraged in the past.

The Boat Airdopes 311 Pro fall into this category. They might be among the most aesthetically pleasing budget-friendly earbuds available today. But how do they actually compare to other economical options? This is an important question, as their allure could quickly fade once the initial excitement dwindles.

đź‘Ť Advantages

  • Stylish design with a compact charging case.
  • Efficient fast charging and pairing, boasting a total playtime of 45 hours.

đź‘Ž Disadvantages

  • Lack of depth in sound; not suitable for bass enthusiasts.
  • No volume adjustment options available.
  • Getting the earbuds to fit properly into the case can be a bit tricky.

Boat Airdopes 311 Pro: Attractive, Yet Lacking Performance

Although the price for the Boat Airdopes 311 Pro exceeds 1,000 rupees, they often retail for under 900 (and sometimes even below 800). They claim to be one of the most premium-looking options in the market, yet some features may leave users wanting more. Here is my comprehensive review of the Boat Airdopes 311 Pro:

Design

For earbuds as stunning as these, there are a few exceptions worth noting. The charging case features a sleek chrome glass finish, and the earbuds themselves appear luxurious and jewel-like when placed inside. The stems of the earbuds are slightly elongated yet not excessively so. The build material is predominantly plastic, which enhances their lightweight nature. Rated at IPX4, they offer resistance to splashes and sweat, a common standard among budget earbuds.

The Boat Airdopes 311 Pro are available in four colors—Black, Blue, Pink, and Grey. While they lack vibrant colors, their understated premium appearance gives them an edge over competitors. The LED indicators for pairing and battery status on the earbuds and case are symmetrically placed, showing red, blue, and white colors for clarity.

The compact design of the case allows for easy storage in pockets or bags. However, the earbuds themselves require precise placement in the case; you need to ensure the stems align correctly with the grooves to trigger the magnets for charging. It isn’t as straightforward as a simple snap closure, but the aesthetic appeal is worth the minor inconvenience.

It’s worth mentioning they are manufactured in China, which may be a consideration for some.

Audio Quality

While the Boat Airdopes 311 Pro shine in terms of design, they disappoint when it comes to sound quality. The 10mm drivers provide an acceptable sound experience, primarily focusing on mids and treble, while the bass is notably lacking. Across various genres that heavily utilize bass—such as rock, EDM, and metal—the performance can feel underwhelming. For genres like acoustic and vocal, they perform adequately, but for bass-heavy music and films, the Airdopes 311 Pro are unfortunately quite flat.

There are no alternative sound modes available, which means users cannot adjust the default audio profile. It’s disappointing because I had hoped to enjoy the Boat Airdopes 311 Pro, but the insufficient bass failed to impress.

Battery Life

The advertised battery life for the earbuds and the case combined reaches 50 hours. However, if you have previous experience with TWS earbuds, you’re aware that actual performance typically falls short of these claims. A more realistic estimate would be around 42-45 hours total playtime. This estimation holds true for the Airdopes 311 Pro.

Boat Airdopes 311 Pro Battery Life

On a full charge, the earbuds can last around 6 hours at maximum volume. However, the piercing treble void of bass can strain the ears when listening at high levels. During extended play, I found myself unable to exceed 85-90% volume due to discomfort.

A quick 10-minute charging session provides 100 minutes of playback, which is slightly less than the advertised 150 minutes from Boat. Nonetheless, it is still a reasonable figure.

Microphone

The dual-mic system featuring ENx technology in the Boat Airdopes 311 Pro seems to fall short compared to competitors with quad-mic systems. However, indoors, the calling and voice recording experience is relatively clear and free from disturbances. When outdoors, some noise can be picked up, particularly in crowded or windy environments, but overall, the mic is competent for everyday use.

Gaming, Latency, and Connection Quality

The specifications state that the Boat Airdopes 311 Pro offer a 50ms low-latency BEAST mode. Although other budget options can achieve even lower latencies (such as 45ms or 40ms), in practical use, this difference is negligible and doesn’t impact gameplay significantly.

Regarding connection stability, the Airdopes 311 Pro performed exceptionally well. Throughout my tests, I experienced no connection drops or interruptions, making them reliable for gaming and media consumption.

Although they lack advanced features like dual pairing—which can create complications if implemented poorly—the inclusion of Bluetooth 5.3 offers quick pairing capabilities, mitigating the impact of the absence of dual pairing.

Controls

The control interface of the Boat Airdopes 311 Pro is basic, with no volume control options; this must be managed via your device. Below are the available controls for the earbuds:

Left Earbud Right Earbud
Music
  • Tap to pause/play
  • Double tap for the previous track
  • Tap to pause/play
  • Double tap for the next track
Phone Calls
  • Tap to answer
  • Double tap to end/reject
  • Tap to answer
  • Double tap to end/reject
Gaming Mode/Voice Assistant Tap and hold for 3 seconds to activate Gaming BEAST mode Tap and hold for 3 seconds for the voice assistant

It would be beneficial to have an accompanying app that provides additional sound customization options, such as an equalizer. Without it, users have to settle for the default sound setting of the earbuds.

My Experience with Boat Airdopes 311 Pro

To be honest, the Boat Airdopes 311 Pro are not my go-to earbuds. Their stunning appearance certainly draws attention, and they look great lying in their case. They are a good option for social gatherings. However, for my personal music tastes, the lack of bass impacts my overall enjoyment, making them less appealing than I had hoped.

If these are my only available TWS earbuds, I can somewhat enhance the sound quality by adjusting the EQ on my music app. Yet, even with bass-boost settings, the overall bass response remains subpar. They serve adequately as a backup with reliable connectivity and substantial battery life, but little beyond that.

Final Verdict

The Boat Airdopes 311 Pro are indeed some of the most visually appealing earbuds on the market. However, relying solely on aesthetics can be misleading. In nearly every other aspect—sound quality, latency, and control features—they are quite average.

If you’re enamored with the Boat Airdopes 311 Pro and are okay with a lighter bass response, they might just be the right choice for you. Nevertheless, in my opinion, numerous superior TWS options exist, such as the Boult W10, which offer better features and performance at a more competitive price point.
