Asus and Dell Report New Problems in Windows 11 24H2 Update, Highlighting Shutdown Bug

The latest Windows 11 24H2 update has introduced several new challenges, notably compatibility issues affecting Dell and Asus computers, which could extend to users on different hardware configurations. Dell has stated that this update is causing malfunctions with shutdown and sleep modes, preventing proper powering off or entering hibernation.

Initially highlighted by Windows Latest and validated by Dell in a follow-up announcement, the shutdown and hibernation features malfunction when the Dell Encryption application is present and users upgrade to Windows 11 24H2.

Regrettably, Microsoft has not implemented any safeguards for upgrading, leading to the continued availability of Windows 11 24H2 on devices with incompatible software. On a positive note, Dell is actively addressing the situation and has begun distributing an updated version of the Dell Encryption software that will automatically download and install to rectify the issues.

In a support article discovered by Windows Latest, Dell claimed that “when Dell Encryption v11.10 is installed on Windows 11 24H2, the Hibernate function fails to engage and the shutdown process does not turn the computer off.”

The company further noted, “Dell Encryption v11.9 and earlier versions are incompatible with 24H2 and should be avoided on these devices.”

If Dell detects that you are using outdated OEM software, it will attempt to update it proactively to prevent complications with Windows 11 24H2.

It remains uncertain whether users of other encryption software face similar challenges with Windows 11 24H2. It’s worth noting that this version enables BitLocker encryption by default during fresh installations, irrespective of which Windows edition is in use.

Dolby Digital Functionality Issues Following Windows 11 24H2 Update

The Windows 11 24H2 update has altered how the Dolby Audio system operates. Earlier reports from Windows Latest revealed that the 2024 update removes Dolby audio decoders, which can lead to audio playback issues on devices not equipped for this transition, particularly during a clean installation of the OS.

Microsoft confirmed to Windows Latest that Dolby Audio decoders will no longer be preloaded with Windows starting from version 24H2. After conducting tests, I can confirm that this change specifically affects fresh installations.

Asus has recognized this alteration and designated it as a known issue, reaffirming its dedication to delivering “superior audio quality.”

Asus has advised users to manually download and install Dolby Digital (known as Dolby AC-3) and Dolby Digital Plus (also referred to as Enhanced AC-3, E-AC-3) if the necessary drivers are missing following the Windows 2024 update.

To restore Dolby audio functionality on your ASUS device, you should first verify Dolby audio compatibility by visiting the official ASUS website or utilizing the MyASUS application.

Dolby audio in Windows 11 24H2

If your device supports Dolby audio and was supplied with a factory-installed Windows system from ASUS, the required Dolby audio decoders should already be included in the pre-installed audio drivers, requiring no further action.

For devices that did not come with a factory-installed Windows system, you must download the specific audio drivers for your model from the ASUS support site. Once the drivers are installed, connect to the internet, and the Dolby audio decoders will automatically be retrieved from the Microsoft Store.

These procedures were previously unnecessary, as Windows 11 included the requisite Dolby drivers by default, but with the introduction of version 24H2, this is no longer the case.
