Microsoft Acknowledges Windows 11 24H2 Gaming Issues and USB Connection Problems
In the past couple of months, Windows Latest has reported on over twenty issues that have surfaced with the Windows 11 24H2 update. Recently, another complication has arisen concerning Ubisoft games, particularly related to the Anti-cheat engine and Asphalt 8. This recent development was highlighted in an update to Microsoft’s support documentation.
Similar to earlier issues, players attempting to launch various Ubisoft games on their updated Windows 11 24H2 systems are experiencing significant launch problems. Even if the game initiates, it either freezes or is met with a black screen. Below is a list of the impacted titles mentioned in the official statement:
- Star Wars Outlaws
- Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora
- Assassin’s Creed Valhalla
- Assassin’s Creed Origins
- Assassin’s Creed Odyssey
Although Ubisoft quickly addressed the issues with Star Wars Outlaws, releasing a significant update (version 1.0.4.0 with a size of 8.83 GB), other titles have yet to see such updates. For example, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, which was launched in December 2023, along with older games, remains without a patch.
In line with unresolved issues related to Asphalt 8 and the Anti-cheat engine, Microsoft’s solution has been to cease the rollout of the 24H2 update for PCs that have any of the five mentioned games installed.
If you’re on Windows 11 24H2 and find yourself unable to enjoy your favorite Assassin’s Creed titles, your only recourse is to terminate the game process through Task Manager and try launching it once more. This is merely a temporary workaround, as black screen issues and crashes are likely to persist, detracting from your gaming experience.
A more reliable solution would involve rolling back to Windows 11 23H2 if it’s been less than ten days since the 24H2 update was installed. Otherwise, performing a clean installation of Windows 11 23H2 could help mitigate these performance issues with Ubisoft games. Additionally, on the same day, another complication surfaced concerning scanners and printers.
USB eSCL Scan Devices Unreachable
eSCL, a protocol that facilitates driverless scanning and allows for the discovery of devices like printers and scanners via USB or wireless connections, is nonfunctional after the 24H2 update. Consequently, many users relying on Mopria printers in their homes or workplaces are left without a solution.
Microsoft has yet to provide a workaround for this issue, which results in the suspension of the update offer for any PC utilizing these printer drivers. To restore full functionality of your scanners, printers, and other eSCL devices, reverting to 23H2 is necessary.
It’s advisable to refrain from manually forcing the 24H2 update before you see the notification in the Settings app, as Microsoft may be restricting it until your device meets the required upgrade criteria.
