Signal can be accessed on various platforms, but numerous users have reported issues with Signal Desktop. This can be inconvenient, especially for those who prefer to use their computers for messaging. Let’s explore some solutions to resolve this issue.
What should I do if Signal Desktop is malfunctioning?
1. Update Your Application
- Verify that you have the latest version of Signal installed. If an update is required, a blue notification banner will appear at the top prompting you to download it.
- If updating through the app proves difficult, you can manually download the latest Signal desktop version from the official Signal download page.
- After installation, check if the issue has been resolved.
- Some users have reported that installing Signal Beta addressed their problems, so consider trying it out as well.
2. Set the Correct Date and Time
- Reboot your PC and repeatedly press F2 or Del to access the BIOS settings.
- Within the BIOS, verify that the date and time are accurate.
- If they are incorrect, adjust them and save your changes.
After completing these steps, Signal should function properly. It’s important to note that computer clocks can sometimes lag, a topic we’ve covered in previous guides, so be sure to check those out.

4. Reinstall Signal
- Press the Windows key + X and select Installed apps.
- Find Signal in the list, click the three dots alongside it, and select Uninstall.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the uninstallation.
