Meta Tests Personalized Content Feeds on Threads

Key Information

  • Meta has initiated trials for custom feeds within Threads, enabling users to curate tailored feeds centered around distinct topics and user profiles.
  • Users have the ability to create personalized feeds by searching for various topics and incorporating profiles, managing up to 128 unique feeds.
  • This new feature rolls out as Threads achieves a significant milestone of 275 million users, while its competitor, Bluesky, shows impressive growth with 17 million users.

Setting up a custom feed is an easy process. Start by searching for a topic of interest, then hit the three-dot menu next to the term and select “create new feed.” Additionally, you can include specific user profiles by clicking the three-dot icon located above their profile picture and choosing the add to feed option.

Your custom feeds will be displayed alongside the existing “For You” and “Following” sections in the main navigation menu. These feeds will showcase a combination of posts from added profiles and search results from your chosen topics, all organized in reverse chronological order to ensure you see the most recent updates.

This new function on Threads mirrors the custom feed capabilities introduced by Bluesky last year. The introduction of this feature comes at a fascinating time in the social media arena. With Threads publicly boasting over 275 million active monthly users, Bluesky has also been gaining traction, recently witnessing an increase of one million users within just 24 hours post the U.S. elections.

Presently, the custom feeds feature is accessible to a select group of users globally during this testing period. Meta intends to broaden availability to more users in the near future, although the “For You” feed will continue to serve as the primary view for now.
