Step-by-Step Guide to Download Instagram Stories and Highlights on Android Devices
While Instagram stands out as a prominent platform for sharing visuals, it lacks built-in features for downloading stories and highlights. Luckily, there are numerous methods to save stories and highlights directly to your Android device, and this guide will walk you through each approach in detail.
Utilize an Online Tool
One of the simplest methods is to utilize a web-based tool to download the Instagram stories and highlights you wish to keep. For this guide, we’ll be using InDown.io, although there are several other options available.
Launch your preferred browser on your Android device and head over to InDown.io.
Next, open up the Instagram app and locate a story or highlight you’d like to download. Procure the link for that specific story or highlight by tapping the Share icon located at the bottom right corner.
Then, tap the Copy link option at the bottom of the menu.
Repeat this process to generate links for individual highlights as well.
If you prefer to download an entire highlight reel, simply long-press on the desired link and choose Copy link from the options that appear at the bottom.
Once you have the Instagram story or highlight link, switch back to your browser at InDown.io. This tool supports downloading content not only from Instagram but also from Pinterest and TikTok, so ensure that Instagram is selected at the top of the page. Decide whether you want to download a story or a highlight.
Click the Paste button next to the link field, followed by the Search button.
With the story or highlight displayed at the bottom, scroll down and hit the Download button.
For highlight bundles, you’ll see each image displayed below and will need to download them individually.
Employ a Third-Party Application
If you’re open to installing an additional app on your phone, using a third-party application can simplify the process. For this demonstration, I will illustrate the usage of InSaver.
Navigate to the desired Instagram story or highlight and copy the link as previously described. Open the InSaver app, and it will automatically initiate the download of the story or highlight for you.
Your downloaded content will be stored within the app and can be shared from there, for example, through WhatsApp. To save them directly to your device, use WhatsApp for sharing.
However, a drawback of this method is the prevalence of advertisements; they appear each time you launch the app or perform certain actions, which can be quite frustrating.
If you wish to download multiple stories or highlights at once, you’ll be prompted either to upgrade to a Premium account or to sign in with your Instagram credentials. Alternatively, you can opt to view an ad in exchange for a download.
Capture a Screenshot
If you’d prefer not to utilize a downloading tool, another effective option is to take screenshots—this is my personal go-to method. Whenever I come across an Instagram post I want to preserve, I simply capture a quick screenshot. The best part? Instagram doesn’t notify users when someone takes a screenshot of their story or highlight.
Typically, you can capture a screenshot by simultaneously pressing the Power and Volume down buttons, although this may vary between different Android devices. For instance, on OnePlus smartphones, a three-finger swipe across the screen captures a screenshot.
Once you have taken the screenshot of the story or highlight, you can use your phone’s editing tool to crop out distracting elements, like the poster’s username, to tailor the image as desired.
This method is ideal for static stories; however, if dealing with a video story, consider using one of the aforementioned methods.
If you have concerns about who is viewing your stories, consider learning how to share Instagram stories solely with a select group of close friends.
