Windows 11 Patch Tuesday KB5046617: Fixes Annoying WSL Bug

Microsoft has officially launched its Patch Tuesday updates for various versions of Windows 11, specifically 24H2, 23H2, and 22H2. The update for 24H2 is identified as KB5046617, whereas KB5046633 is the update for both the 23H2 and 22H2 versions.

This month’s updates primarily concentrate on enhancing security and overall quality, but there are several important modifications worth noting.

Among these, KB5046617 stands out as the most significant enhancement, addressing a problem related to the incorrect display of group counts in the Task Manager when sorted by type. Additionally, it rectifies an issue that could cause devices to lose internet connectivity due to conflicting DHCP options from a server.

For users of the Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL), there’s good news: KB5046617 resolves a bug that impeded access to the development drive. Microsoft has acknowledged one known issue with this release, wherein players using Arm devices are unable to download and play Roblox through the Microsoft Store.

Also included is KB5047621, known as a servicing stack update, which enhances the quality of the component that manages Windows updates installation.

This update also addresses a problem where the OpenSSH service fails to start post-installation of the October 2024 security update, leading to unsuccessful SSH connections.

Although KB5047621 is important for ensuring a seamless updating process on Windows, it is not mandatory to install it immediately. The same applies to KB5046617.

Most users will find that both updates are downloaded and applied automatically. However, those who prefer a manual installation can obtain KB5046617 and KB5046633 from the Microsoft Update Catalog.

Don’t forget, if you are still running Windows 10, be sure to download the corresponding Patch Tuesday updates for that operating system as well.
