Creating AI Objects Using Paint Generative Fill Feature on Windows 11
  • To utilize the generative fill functionality in Microsoft Paint, start by opening your image in Paint. Then, use the “Rectangle” or “Free-form” selection tool to highlight the area you wish to edit. After that, select “Generative fill,” draft a prompt describing the object you want to add, and finalize by clicking “Keep.”

In the Windows 11 version of Microsoft Paint, an innovative generative fill feature is integrated, leveraging artificial intelligence to produce new objects or modify existing ones while preserving the overall artistic style of the project.

For instance, if you have an image depicting a forest, you could highlight a section and use it to add elements like a cabin or additional trees. Alternatively, you can select an existing object and employ a text prompt to generate an entirely different landscape via AI.

This article will guide you through the steps to start using the generative fill feature in Microsoft Paint on Windows 11.

Upon completing these steps, the generative fill tool will generate the object based on your instructions. Be mindful that, once you save the file, undo options will no longer be available. Therefore, it’s recommended to work on a duplicate of your image rather than the original.

Currently, Microsoft has limited the generative fill feature to Copilot+ PCs that utilize Snapdragon ARM processors with a Neural Processing Unit (NPU) for local image processing.

Additionally, you must have version 11.2410.28.0 or a later version of Microsoft Paint. To check for updates, navigate to the Microsoft Store app and visit the “Downloads” page. At the moment, this feature is accessible solely to devices participating in the Canary and Dev Channels of the Windows Insider Program.
