Google Photos Introduces New “Updates” Feed for Sharing Page Replacement with Bell Icon
Key Highlights:
- Google Photos will be transitioning from its current “Sharing” page to a new “Updates” feed, which can be found through a bell icon in the app bar.
- The Updates feed will systematically arrange all user activities, encompassing shared albums, discussions, and memory notifications in chronological order.
- This new feature is set to be introduced for both Android and iOS users in the coming weeks.
Google is enhancing the user experience in Google Photos when it comes to sharing content by revamping various features.
According to Google’s support documentation, the updated section in the Photos app is designed to make it significantly more straightforward to “stay updated on recent activities.” This will be done by offering a user-friendly interface for overseeing albums, groups, and discussions. The Updates feed will categorize content based on timeframes: today, yesterday, this week, this month, last month, and more. Users can anticipate notifications covering changes to shared albums, updates in conversations, activities from partner sharing, memory alerts, and storage warnings.
To view shared albums under the new interface, users should visit the Collections tab and click on Albums, where they can select filters such as All, Shared with me, and My albums. The features previously found on the Sharing page have not been removed; rather, they have been reorganized for improved usability.
A significant interface update is the substitution of the ‘people‘ icon with a notification Bell icon, aligning Google Photos with the design of other Google applications like Home, Play Store, and YouTube.
This bell icon allows users quick access to the latest sharing notifications, conversations, and shared links.
The “Updates” page is set to roll out gradually to users of the Google Photos app on both Android and iOS platforms. If you haven’t yet encountered this feature, check back regularly as it becomes available over the next few weeks.
In summary, users can look forward to “A refreshed approach to photo sharing that consolidates all of your updates into one easily accessible location.”
