How to Create Custom Lists on WhatsApp: A Complete Guide

Important Information

  • WhatsApp has introduced the ability for users to create personalized lists and filters, enhancing chat organization.
  • To access the filters on WhatsApp’s ‘Chat’ screen, simply swipe down.
  • Press the + icon located in the filter section to set up a new custom list. You can edit lists by long-pressing on them.
  • Both individual conversations and group chats can be included in your custom lists.

Recently, WhatsApp unveiled Custom Lists, providing a new way to categorize and filter your chat messages. This feature follows the earlier introduction of chat filters and favorites earlier this year.

Below, you’ll find a guide on how you can create a custom list to streamline your chat management.

Guide to Creating Custom Lists on WhatsApp

With the new custom lists functionality, you have the freedom to design your own filters, expanding beyond the basic categories such as “All” , “Unread” , “Favorites” , and “Groups” . Follow these steps to create your custom list:

  1. From the main ‘Chats’ screen on WhatsApp, swipe down to display the chat filters.
  2. Tap the + sign located next to the default filters on the right.
  3. Input the desired name for your custom list and select the chats you want to include.
  4. You can incorporate both group chats and individual conversations in your list.
  5. Edit an existing list by long-pressing on its name.

Currently, WhatsApp is rolling out custom lists to users worldwide. Ensure your app is updated to see the + symbol in the filter area that allows for the creation of custom lists. The feature is expected to be available to all users in the upcoming weeks.
