Guide to Recovering Deleted Instagram Posts

Essential Information

  • You can recover deleted Instagram posts, reels, and stories.
  • Navigate to your profile, tap on More options (top right), and select Your Activity. Tap Recently Deleted to see content deleted within the last 30 days.
  • To recover an item, open it, tap the three-dot icon, and choose Restore.

Imagine capturing the perfect moment during a New York Blizzard or an appetizing lunch that you felt proud to share. After posting it, for some reason, you decided to delete it. Now, after reflecting on your decision, you realize that life just isn’t the same without that particular Instagram post. Surely, there must be a way to restore a deleted Instagram post, right?

Indeed, there is!

Steps to Recover a Deleted Instagram Post

First, open Instagram, then tap on your profile picture. Next, click on the hamburger icon (three horizontal lines) located in the top right corner. Choose Your Activity.

Under ‘Removed and archived content’, select Recently Deleted. Here, you will be able to find your posts, reels, and stories that have been deleted in the past 30 days.

The number displayed on each post indicates how many days are left to restore it before it’s permanently gone. Keep an eye on these timelines to save any deleted items.

How to Restore a Deleted Instagram Post, Reel, or Story

To restore any deleted item, simply tap on it to view it. Then, click on the three-dot icon and select Restore.

When prompted, tap Restore again. After restoration, the content will be visible on your profile once more, maintaining all your views, likes, and comments.

Previously, it was challenging to undelete Instagram posts without utilizing the Archives, and stories could only be recovered if they hadn’t been deleted within the first 24 hours. If a malicious user happened to gain access to your account, all content, including Archives, could be lost.

Fortunately, Instagram’s Recently Deleted feature safeguards your deleted posts from permanent deletion for up to 30 days, similar to a spam or trash folder.

It’s important to note that while all deleted items, including posts, stories, and reels, will remain in the Recently Deleted section for one month, Stories that have expired after 24 hours will not.

We hope this guide clarifies how the Recently Deleted feature works. If you have any additional questions, feel free to leave them in the comments below — we’re here to help!
