Task Manager in Windows 11 to Display Enhanced Disk Information

The Task Manager in Windows provides important information about your available disks within the Performance tab. Microsoft is working to enhance this feature and is currently testing the addition of more detailed disk information in Task Manager.

Recently, Microsoft researcher Phantomofearth discovered a hidden enhancement in the Performance section of Task Manager in the latest Insider Beta build 22635.4225. Notably, this feature is not enabled by default.

Windows Latest successfully activated the disk details feature in Task Manager, revealing a detailed disk type label next to each disk available on the system. For instance, our test with an NVMe SSD showed the label as SSD (NVMe), as illustrated in the screenshot below.

Additionally, the disk type is displayed below the performance graph. In contrast, the stable version of Task Manager merely identifies the disk as an SSD without delineating the specific disk type.

Enhanced Disk Information in Task Manager

While the inclusion of disk type details in Task Manager is a commendable step forward, we urge Microsoft to incorporate additional information within the Performance section. One major enhancement would be the capability to display the temperature of the disk.

Currently, Task Manager shows the temperature readings for both GPUs in our system, yet it lacks temperature readings for the CPU and disk drives. To access this information, users must navigate to the disk properties within the Settings app, which can be cumbersome as it is buried deep within the Storage settings.

Incorporating temperature statistics for installed disks would be beneficial for detecting any potential issues. The same holds true for CPU temperature monitoring, which has been overlooked by Microsoft for some time. Users often have to rely on third-party applications or delve into the BIOS for this crucial information.

It’s time for Microsoft to resolve this limitation by adding CPU temperature details directly to Task Manager.
