Automatically Solve Math Problems Using Notes in iOS 18

Essential Information

  • The Notes app on your iPhone can automatically solve math problems you input.
  • Choose between ‘Suggest Results’ or ‘Insert Results’ via More Options > Math Results in your note.
  • Input your math equation and end it with an ‘equals’ sign to receive the solution.

With the latest updates, the Notes app on your iPhone now includes the ability to solve math equations. This functionality, inspired by the calculator feature on the iPad, automatically calculates the results of the math problems you enter in the notes app. Despite iOS 18’s version being less sophisticated than the iPadOS 18 calculator, it’s still a valuable tool for quickly solving math equations without the necessity of opening the calculator application.

Steps to Solve Math Problems in Notes

Depending on your preferences, you can have the Notes app either suggest results or directly insert them into your notes. Here’s a simple guide:

  1. Input a math problem in Notes and follow it with an ‘equals’ sign (=). Afterward, tap the three-dot icon located in the upper right corner.
  2. Select Math Results and choose either Suggest Results or Insert Results.
  3. The Suggest Results option will display the solution once it detects the equals sign, while the Insert Results feature will automatically add the result into your notes.

If you’re adept in math and prefer to keep your calculations private, you can completely disable the Math Results option.
