Installing Microsoft Edge Browser on Linux: A Step-by-Step Guide

On Ubuntu and other Linux distributions such as Mint, Debian, Fedora, and openSUSE, you can install the Microsoft Edge browser from the Stable, Beta, and Dev Channels using both graphical user interface (GUI) commands and terminal commands.
The browser version on Linux mirrors the experience offered on Windows 11 and Windows 10, supporting extensions, developer tools, and core rendering technologies. Additionally, you can create a profile and sync your settings and bookmarks across devices.
This guide details the steps to install Microsoft Edge on Linux. While I am using Ubuntu 24.04 for this demonstration, the instructions are applicable to most distributions with a GUI.

Install Microsoft Edge from GUI on Linux
To install Microsoft Edge on Linux distributions like Ubuntu or Linux Mint using the GUI, follow these steps:

Click the Download Edge button.

Click the “Accept and download” button to initiate the download of the installer.

Double-click the “*.deb” file to launch the installer.

Click the Install button to proceed with the installation of Edge on Linux.
Quick note: The message may indicate “Potentially unsafe” since you are installing the app outside the Ubuntu app store; however, the package is safe as it is a download from the official Microsoft website. - Click the Install button again to confirm.
After completing these steps, Microsoft Edge will be installed and accessible from the app menu.
Install Microsoft Edge from commands on Linux
To install Microsoft Edge using terminal commands, follow these instructions:

Open Terminal.

Run the following command to update your package list:
sudo apt update

Execute the following command to install Microsoft Edge (stable) on Linux:
sudo apt update && sudo apt install microsoft-edge-stable
Once you finish these steps, the stable version of Microsoft Edge will be installed on your Linux distribution.
Uninstall Microsoft Edge on Linux
You can uninstall Microsoft Edge on Linux using either the GUI method or terminal commands.
Graphical interface
To remove Microsoft Edge using the GUI:

Open the app store for your Linux distribution, such as “App Center” for Ubuntu or “Software Manager” on Linux Mint.

Install Microsoft Edge Insider from commands on Linux

Uninstall Microsoft Edge Insider on Linux
Similar to the stable version, there are two methods to remove Microsoft Edge Insider on Linux: using the GUI or terminal commands. If the option is not available via the app store, using the command instructions is effective.
Graphical interface
To remove Microsoft Edge Insider, follow these steps:

Open the app store for your Linux distribution.

Select the Installed tab.

Click the Uninstall button next to microsoft-edge-dev in the “Applications” section.

To remove the Edge Insider browser using terminal commands, follow these steps:
