Electrifying Features
The TOPDON 2000A Peak Battery Jump Starter offers functionality befitting of its name, as it is capable of delivering up to 2,000 peak amps to restart 12V batteries for 8.0L gasoline and 6.0L diesel engines in a mere three seconds at the push of the boost button. The device can deliver that 35 to 40 times on a single charge, depending on the vehicle’s battery size.
To jumpstart a vehicle, the user connects the included booster attachment to the JS2000 portable jump starter, affixes the positive (red) and negative (black) jumper cable clamps to the vehicle’s battery, and presses the boost button. Once the green light on the booster attachment illuminates, the user can key the ignition to jumpstart their vehicle. Within 30 seconds of jumpstarting the vehicle, it is recommend that the user remove the jumper cables from the battery.
Safety remains a key aspect of the product as well, with the TOPDON 2000A offering a total of ten built-in protection technologies against reverse polarities, overcurrents, and short circuits, just to name a few. If the TOPDON 2000A encounters an electrical abnormality, the green LED indicator on the booster attachment will flash rapidly to notify the user.
In addition to its drop-resistant reinforced design, the TOPDON 2000A also features advanced temperature resistance. Enabled by an integrated “Stop Spark” sensor, the device can operate in temperatures that fall as low as 14°F and climb as high as 104°F. The ability to withstand such extreme temperatures offers intrepid explorers peace of mind every time they hit the road, no matter the conditions.
The TOPDON 2000A additionally features a built-in 300 lumen LED flashlight with three available modes, including steady illumination, an SOS pattern, and strobe lighting. This incredibly bright flashlight will allow users to identify people, objects, and animals up to 50 meters in the distance.
Getting Charged Up
The device conveniently charges via an included USB-C cable. However, a compatible power adapter is notably not included in the box, which led me to turn to my 20W iPhone charger to attempt the initial charge cycle. Since a standalone charger for the TOPDON 2000A is not included, it would be reasonable to assume that most users are going to turn to their smartphone or tablet charger for a quick charge.
However, I quickly learned that using a typical USB-C charging brick, such as the one made for my iPhone, would not charge the device. After reading the fine print, I noticed that chargers below 5V/3A are unable to charge the device. However, my MacBook Pro’s 67W power adapter was able to charge the device from 0 – 100% in a little over an hour. It is worth noting that the product utilizes a lithium-ion battery, like smartphone batteries.
When it comes to charging your accessories, the TOPDON 2000A offers a DC port outputting 14-16V and two USB-A ports for charging smartphones and other common accessories as a backup battery. I was able to test the charging ports by topping off my tablet and smartphone during a recent road trip. The standard USB port outputs 5V/2A, and the blue “Quick Charge” USB port outputs up to 12V (5/9/12V).
With nearly every consumer tech product making the move to USB-C, the USB-A charging ports are a distinct inconvenience for anyone owning a laptop, smartphone, or tablet that was released within the last few years. The charging speeds are not particularly impressive but will get the job done if you are running low on power. To sustain a charge on larger devices, such as laptops and tablets while they are in use, the “Quick Charge” USB port is necessary.
Crush-Resistant Carrying Case
The TOPDON 2000A comes with a surprisingly lightweight and durable carrying case made of shockproof ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) material. The material is also UV resistant and resistant to stress cracks. The handle feels remarkably sturdy, and a built-in mesh allows users to store the JS2000 portable jump starter and the booster attachment separately to ensure secure storage.
Final Thoughts
The TOPDON 2000A Peak Battery Jump Starter is a helpful tool for frequent road trippers and everyday adventurers offering key features that may be useful in an emergency. Advanced electric protections eliminate key safety concerns, while its tough design makes this device a durable and dependable choice for users in need of everyday power and the occasional vehicle jumpstart. The bright built-in flashlight features a number of useful modes, and the device itself features a surprising amount of I/O. Available at a discount for just $84.95, this is a product that I would recommend to anyone who owns a vehicle or requires access to power on the move.
