How to Blur the Background in CapCut?
1. Using the CapCut Web Application
- Sign in to the CapCut video editor using either your Google Account or personal email.
- Click on the New video card and then drag and drop your video into the editing workspace that appears.
- Select the imported video in the timeline, right-click, and choose Duplicate.
Next, you will extract the subject from the duplicated video:
- Click on the duplicated video layer beneath the source video, select Smart tools from the right-side menu, and click on the Remove background option.
- In the appearing context menu, toggle the Auto removal switch.
- CapCut will now erase the video background. You can view and fine-tune the duplicate’s frame in the preview section to ensure quality.
Now, let’s proceed to blur the background of the source video:
- Select the source video in the timeline, then click on Effects in the left navigation panel.
- Choose a blur filter to only display bokeh effects. Pick any blur effect from the left panel.
- Adjust the blur effect across the entire timeline to ensure it lasts the duration of the source video.
Finally, it’s time to finalize the overlay and export your video:
- Click on the duplicate video layer below the source video and drag it to the top of the timeline.
- Now, adjust the frame of the video to line up perfectly with the blurred background.
- In the upper-right corner, click Export and select Download from the Export menu to save your video as an MP4 file.
2. Using the CapCut Desktop Application

- Select the uploaded image, right-click, and click on Duplicate.
